At the end of every school day, instead of rushing home, some one hundred Bais Rivkah students stay behind for the school’s Teen Club.
The Bais Rivkah Teen Club is a no-cost after-school program for the school’s 6-8 graders that provides nourishing food, homework support, and stimulating recreational clubs and workshops. It is now completing its sixth year, a year which was filled with much excitement and enthusiasm, progress and personal growth.
“The program keeps kids in a very positive environment, giving them a fun time without the need to seek out other things, and keeping them with friends,” said one of the program staff members.
“Another aspect is giving children the ability to explore different interests, whether its guitar lessons, cake decorating, hairstyling, computers and graphic design, woodworking, dance, drama or photography – giving them an idea of something they would like to pursue after they graduate,” she said.
The program is the result of a partnership between Associated Beth Rivkah Schools and the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island (JCCGCI), which operates the program under funding from the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD)’s Comprehensive After School System of NYC (COMPASS NYC) / School’s Out NYC (SONYC) initiative*. Beth Rivkah Teen Club is one of five (5) after school programs operated by JCCGCI at various sites in Brooklyn and Queens.
This program is considered one of the best quality after-school programs in NYC. Last year, DYCD’s Commissioner chose this program to highlight through a personal site visit.
Besides the year-round after-school services, this program offers a unique summer day camp program, known as the Pioneer Drama Camp (Grades 6 & 7th). Each year this day camp program produces a professional quality drama production.
Aidela Rabiski serves as After School Program Director; Chanie Moskowitz is the overall director of JCCGCI’s after-school programs and services.
The following offers a small glimpse of this year’s activities at Beth Rivkah Teen Club:
I spy….Daniella Ilyayev 🙂
I go to ASP (Br teen club), and i really love it. it’s really fun and it’s AWESOME!!!! I also made a bunch of new friends.
I go to after school program (aka BrTeen Club) and I really enjoy it. The activities are enjoyable, the staff are very warm and helping by homework time, and the supper is good to keep me going until I get home. I really look forward everyday to spend time with my friends in a different environment than school.
Is there a telephone number for those parents who are interested in signing up for next year.
A special thank you to Aidele Rabiski and staff who have created this incredible program for our kids. We are so appreciative for all that you do
