The eye-catching cakes that were part of the menu at the Beis Medrash Lag BaOmer chassidishe Kumzitz in Crown Heights last week were just a preview of the bake-off scheduled for Tuesday night.
With Levi Kumer playing guitar in the background, families enjoyed singing R’ Shimon bar Yochai songs and Chabad niggunim while enjoying a BBQ, salads and desserts.
The children said the 12 Pesukim and played bow and arrow not before roasting marshmallows on long sticks over the bonfire in the backyard of Motty and Chanel Lipskier, Directors of The Beis Medrash and The Beis Medrash Women’s Circle.
“I have been living in Crown Heights for about five years now and I am so happy to finally feel like I have a place to go to, geared to the whole family,” said Chanie M., a California native.
“It’s not easy to keep the proper atmosphere at a family event, but Rabbi Lipskier really does a great job at that with divrei torah, separate seating, etc.” added Sholom R. who brought his family.
The event was generously sponsored in part by Mr. and Mrs. Shloime Klein and Mr. and Mrs. Shaya Gordon of Mr. Greens.
But it was the cakes that gave away what Chanel Lipskier of the The Beis Medrash Women’s Circle has in store for the upcoming holiday of Shavuos.
An evening for local women titled “From the Mountaintop to our Home” is taking place Tuesday evening, May 15, at 8:00 pm at the Deitsch residence, 667 Crown Street.
Mrs. Chaya Teldon will be speaking about relationships, Mrs. Chevy Lazar will explore how to incorporate personal growth into busy lives and Mrs. Henny Chanina will talk about making the Torah relevant to children’s lives.
The event will feature a cheesecake bake-off with participants (optional) bringing their cheesecake and getting to taste their friends and then choosing the favorite.
There will be a raffle on a stunning Shavuos bouquet of flowers sponsored by Mimulo. Admission is $10.
I come from a Crown Heights family, and I am so impressed with the success, incorporated chassidishkeit, and amazing food (!) included in the Beis Medresh’s programs. This Tues, I went to the cheesecake bake off and besides for gaining a couple of pounds (but well worth it, i tell ya!), I gained a mountain of knowledge!
Thank you so, so, so much Rabbi Motty and Mrs. Chanel Lipskier! May you continue to be a success with the Rebbe at your side at all times.
No good Chabad House doesn’t have a Lag B’omer event like this no there’s no reason why crown heights families can’t have their own great function like this.
Yar Shekoach The Beis Medrash!

R singles invited to these events?
As usual the Beis Medrash continues to raise the quality bar
finally an event in crown heights that actually looks jewish.
R’ Motty, the Beis Medrash is B”H very successful. Let the ladies do their thing and the men peulos should be centered around the Beis Medrash (shiurim, farbreingen etc).
so impressed to see a shul that the Rebbe would be PROUD to walk into!!
