Captain Lazer Danzinger, a Chabad rabbi who is the only full-time Jewish chaplain in the Canadian Forces, recently officiated the very first Jewish, military wedding, since World War II.
On April 4, Rabbi Danzinger performed the marriage rites of Major Alain Cohen and his wife Alexis Haligua, both from Ottawa.
The marriage took place in Merida, Mexico, situated on the Yucatan peninsula, a favourite vacation spot of the Cohens.
When Major Cohen heard of that there was a Jewish chaplain, a rabbi, in the Canadian military, Alain quickly contacted him, and asked him to officiate. For his part, Rabbi Danzinger was also thrilled to be able to do so.
“Although I feel it is a privilege to care for all soldiers, regardless of their religious background, it was the spiritual welfare of Jewish soldiers, such as Alain, that motivated me to join the Canadian Forces in the first place,” said Rabbi Danzinger.
The chupah was truly unique, capturing all the traditions of a Canadian military wedding, while being fully faithful to the time-honored requirements of Jewish law.
Thank you to all of you for your kind words of congratulations and a big thank you to Rabbi Danzinger for conducting the ceremony.

toronto rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes, I happen to know it WAS done per halacha, and the couple DID study and do necessary preparations beforehand, and wouldn’t it be so wonderful if we could have even one little article on COL without assuming the worst about things? without negativity? without nasty talkbacks? positive thoughts people….

Why oh why would you even suspect that it was not done according to halacha. A Jew has a Chezkas Kashrus to begin.
hopefully this was done according to halacha, the kalla keeping the mitzvos etc.
