On Wednesday, the Jewish Community of Lipetsk, Russia celebrated a most unique event, a bris ceremony for 3 men.
The local Shliach, Rabbi Shmuli Stiefel, arranged for Moscow Mohel Shaya Shafit to travel to Lipetsk to perform the ceremony.
The bris ceremonies for Tzvi Hirsh, Yaakov, and Ariel mark the first ones in living memory to take place in the city, remarked elderly members of the community, saying that no one has had a Bris Milah in Lipetsk since at least the rise of Communism in 1917, when religious practice was banned.
“In the past, individuals had to travel to Moscow, Israel, or some other large Jewish community with a Mohel in order to fulfill this mitzvah,” said Rabbi Stiefel. “The practicality of acquiring a Bris has now increased exponentially, as men and parents of children have learned that they can have a Bris Milah and fully recuperate afterwards at home with no need to travel.”
And, of course, they can celebrate afterwards together with the whole community at the Seudas Mitzvah and Jewish naming ceremony.
courageous men who undergo the bris, because it is much more painful for an adult than for a baby.
Shmuli, keep up the great work!
From Bro Mo
the head is held by a sandik. by a baby the sandik holds the entire baby but that can’t really be done by an adult so therefor just the head is held
