Learning almost came to an abrupt stop at Yeshivas Lubavitch in Toronto, Ontario, when a store nearby broke out in fire.
A 3 alarm fire alarm went off at the Haymishe Bagel Shop, a bakery store located across the street from the Yeshiva, closing numerous streets in the vicinity.
A number of local media reporters stationed themselves in the Yeshiva parking lot to monitor the incident.
Boruch Hashem, no one was hurt in the blaze, but many appliances and products were reduced to ashes in the inferno.
When it was clear that bochurim faced no harm, the Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Akiva Wagner instructed that learning continue, despite all the excitement.
He noted that Sunday was the day after Tu Bishvat, a day on which the Rebbe would frequently farbreng about increased diligence in learning Torah.

Before I became frum, they specialized in the famous TOASTED BAGEL, much like the other Bakery, GRYPHE’S…and before that SKY’S BAKERY. It was one of a kind Montreal style… but when I became frum, I went to my Zaidy’s Bakery for all my products.
Those bagels were a little burnt I think
of toasted bagels!

it was six years ago to be exsact i remember it clearly, shabbos parshas vayeira.
lots of excitement happening here 🙂
And the burned out shell of Perls still stands ~~ probably rat infested and completly ruins the look of the area… Someone should tear it down and build again… I think that the buildings are soooooooo old that they are fire hazards…they really need to redo that whole plaza… Hope the clothes in the dry cleaner don’t smell like smoke…And that the Kosher Grocer is o.k. It was really hard to see all the Yiddishe people eating in that not kosher bakery…they had a mini eating area for sandwiches too…you could see it thru the window… Hope Friedmans fish is… Read more »

The shop is/was not Kosher at all. That name was deceiving to many people……and I remember when Beis Burger, which was a few doors down, burnt down a few years ago….
