This past Sunday, Rabbi Gadi Louzoun received an urgent phone call about the Chabad center that he runs Zhaoxiang Road in Foshan, a city in central Guangdong Province of China.
The report was that the center was up in flames.
“The moments of us running forward the Chabad House will probably be forever be ingrained in our memory,” recalled Rabbi Louzoun, who directs the center with his wife, Mrs. Avigayil Louzoun.
From photos of the scene, it appears that the fire consumed walls, tables and chairs. But there was a miracle when it was discovered that the Aron Kodesh and the Torahs inside were unscathed.
“It gave us a warm feeling that our place is protected and supervised, and that our faithful sheltered doesn’t leave his flock even during times of crisis,” the Shliach said.
With 72 hours left until Pesach, Rabbi and Mrs. Louzoun sprang into action and paid a considerable sum of money to have the center restored in time for the Seder on Wednesday night.
“It was an impossible mission, but we were able to welcome the Yom Tov with a set table for 120 people,” the rabbi said, expressing his joy at celebrating Pesach with community members and guests followed by Shabbos Chol Hamoed.
“We experienced 72 hours of anxiety, difficulty, coping, faith, hope, mutual brotherhood and in the end a great gratitude to Hashem for his many graces,” the rabbi said.
