The 71st Precinct of the New York Police Department (NYPD) is still searching for a thief who broke into a Jewish owned store in Crown Heights this past month.
It happened on Wednesday, October 14, when an unknown female entered Zlata Wigs, a high-end shop that sells shietels to frum Jewish women, located at 386 Kingston Avenue, between Crown and Montgomery Street.
Police reported that at 7:38 PM, the thief forcibly opened the rear door with a hammer and “upon entry, the female removed 40 wigs then fled the location to parts unknown.”
Zlata Gitlin, owner of Zlata Wigs, estimated the loss in the tens of thousands of dollars and has provided the police with surveillance footage showing the thief.
Gitlin told COLlive.com that following the break-in, they have received an outpouring of supportive messages from customers.
“It’s very heartwarming for us to see the support from the clients who called and messaged asking if we need anything and check-up on us,” she said. “We clearly have clients who are also friends in the community.”

So sorry, Zlata. I guess the only way to deal with this is to think of this awful loss as a Kapparah for something even more aggravating. This had to have been pre-planned, not done on a whim. The thief must know the neighborhood well if she knew just how to come around the back to break into the store. She must live, or have lived, in a local apt. building, or have worked for someone locally. Everyone should know this and try to help locate if she tries to sell. What a chutzpah. Could she have seen the youtube video and gotten ideas.
Store Gates are very important for ALL Crown Heights Businesses, Even for the back entrance like here, As well shockingly many ch stores have windows towards the back Alleyway or backyard of their store and there are No bars, Bars are very important to have installed as well.
Possibly she will try to sell them by the unofficial outdoor flea market by Eastern Parkway & Utica near the Utica Subway Train Station entrance, In the past years I believe once or twice important valuables that were stolen from Yidden in CH were being sold there & recovered, Maybe Zlata Wigs can give a description of their wigs and ask Shmira/Shomrim if they can canvass the EP/Utica thing to see if they spot it.

I bought a sheitel from Zlata in the summer and I have never had such a nice experience before. She is so friendly and nice. Understands you. Is genuine. Doesn’t pressure you.
I hope they catch the thief and her losses are recovered. So sorry she is having to deal with this.
