This past Sunday, fathers and sons of Cheder Lubavitch Morristown joined for an amazing Chof Daled Teves and Hachana for Yud shvat program.
Talmidim learned with their fathers before Davening a perek of Tanya – the Alter Rebbe’s magnum opus and crown jewel of Chassidus. Davening was then followed by more learning.
While some father/son chavrusas learned mishnayos for the Alter Rebbe’s name, others learned selected Hilchos Talmid Torah from the Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch.
Much of the learning was focused on Basi L’Gani; using the hour to begin hachanos for the Kabalas HaNesius of our Rebbe. Parents chose from learning the 5710 ma’amer of the Freidiker Rebbe, or one of the Rebbe’s ma’amarim: 5711, 5717, or 5737, per this year’s learning schedule.
It was visibly difficult for principal Rabbi Aharon Wilschanski to call a stop to the learning, but the brunch and farbrengen was ready to begin.
An appetizing bagel and lox meal with an array of salads and an assortment of drinks awaited the students and their fathers. As they ate, they heard from Rabbi Leima Wilhelm, a Cheder father and Mashpia in Tomchei Tmimim, farbrenged about our Hiskashrus to the Rebbe, and what we can learn from this year’s ma’amer of Basi L’Gani, Rabbi Wilhelm also pointed out the famous Hayom yom of Chof Beis Teves in regards to Chinuch and thanking all the Melamdim for allowing to utilize this special and additional opportunity of Fathers and sons learning in preparation for Yud Shvat.
Fathers and sons watched a special clip from a Chof Daled Teves Farbrengen of the Rebbe, sung a Nigun from the Alter Rebbe and later heard from another cheder father, Rabbi Elkanah Shmotkin, who excitedly presented JEM’s highly anticipated Early Years book, in bookstores soon. He shared some of the incredible documentation and tidbits his team of researchers discovered while learning about the Rebbe’s years before his nesi’us.
Before bentching, parents were told of the great progress the entire cheder was making in Tanya Ba’al Peh. Special recognition was given to the youngest grades, who have had a special koch in learning TBP, thanks to their rebbie, Rabbi Reuven Witkes.
A special thank you and much appreciation to the Paul family for extending their help!
The great avir of learning and all the smiling faces confirmed the program’s great success! Yasher Koach!
