Message from the Zellermaier family
As the Yartzeit of Heshy (Dovid Tzvi) Zellermaier OBM is approaching on 23 Adar, we are reaching out to family and friends to share stories and memories of him.
Heshy Zellermaier was one of the founding members of Hatzala volunteer CH-8, where he dedicated his life to helping many people.
He was the longtime owner of the candy store, known to many just as “Hershy’s”. He was a beloved figure in the neighborhood.
Heshy was active in saving the now famous Maple street shul when it was being sold to a church.
He was a warm family man, always selflessly looking out for the needs of others. Nothing gave him more joy than making someone else feel comfortable, cared for, and taken care of.
He worked tirelessly to help raise the spirits and material needs of all including the poor and downtrodden.
His tzedaka was discreet and unstinting.
Heshy’s smile emulated who he was.
Memories, stories and recounts can be sent to heshysmemory@gmail.com
Thank you!

He was a good man. Always with a smile on his face and a good word on his lips.

When my mother would go shopping there, He would always give us a candy. I remember his Jumbo lollipops behind the counter. If I walked into the store and only had .19 Cents, and a pack of Chew-Chews costed .25 Cents, Heshy would give it to me anyway with a smile. Later when I got a bit older, I started realizing that he was… Read more »

It never failed to impress how Heshy would physically RUN when responding to a Hatzalah call. He would also stop mid waiting on a customer to run out of his store to clear traffic when he heard on his radio that the ambulance was heading toward Kingston.
