Facing Uncertainty, Bochurim of Tzeirei Hashluchim Tzfas Take Action

The bochurim who are currently in Crown Heights went to Times Square and Washington Square Park to wrap tefillin on fellow Yidden, in accordance with the Rebbe’s directives before the Six Day War in 1967.

The Rebbe quoted the Gemara in Menachos which explains that the posuk “וראו כל־עמי הארץ כי שם ה’ נקרא עליך ויראו ממך“ – “All the nations of the world will see that the name of Hashem is upon you, and they will fear you” (Devarim 28:10) refers to the Tefillin shel Rosh. Thus, the Rebbe explains, Tefillin assist in the war effort itself, and help conquer the enemy.

The crowds gathered in Times Square were excited and energized as Shmuel’s Mitzvah Tank rolled up, and a big Kiddush Hashem was made as dozens of men eagerly rolled up their sleeves to wrap Tefillin. “Seeing the enthusiasm of the people upon seeing us, helped us realize the unique position and abilities we have as bochurim” remarked a bochur.

Facing uncertainty about when Yeshiva will be able to begin learning again in Tzfas, the Shluchim commented that “our shlichus now is to encourage the Bochurim to utilize their time to the fullest, despite not being in a Yeshiva setting, whilst some of their friends are close to the violence, and part of Hanhala is in uniform on the front lines.”

In addition, immediately upon hearing the news after Yom Tov, the Shluchim and bochurim began encouraging their friends and family to get involved in doing various mitzvos to support our brothers and sisters, heeding the Rebbe’s words in 5727/1967; “You have the great obligation and merit to assist them. When you learn one more posuk in Torah, fulfill one more mitzvah…This will save every Jewish person wherever he is from his hardships…”

Everyone is encouraged to get involved by adding in Torah and Tefilla, and to help spread resources about the Rebbe’s Mivtzoim in these times to all those in their circles of influence.
