This year’s RCCS auction theme is Emotions, and in Crown Heights, Emotions are running high as house party after house party takes off. Emoji bumper stickers and key chains are everywhere, proliferating and further spreading awareness of the RCCS mission to benefit cholei Yisroel throughout the Crown Heights area and beyond.
RCCS was founded in 1997 with the purpose of funding insurance premiums for those cancer stricken patients who could ill afford to pay for coverage otherwise. The goal was to enable these patients to be able to obtain the best medical care available to them. This is still the primary drive behind RCCS. In addition, RCCS has expanded to provide medical referrals, facilitate appointments with top doctors, and offer insurance advocacy for those occasions when insurance companies wrongfully refuse to cover claims leaving too many families feeling completely helpless. RCCS brings gifts to the family members of cancer patients and facilitates over half a million dollars in grants annually including helping with rent or mortgages, as well as offering tuition assistance and other costs depending on what is needed for each individual.
Since its foundation in 1997, the Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society, has helped thousands of patients and their families as they battle for life. During the past year, RCCS has helped support over 1846 patients with costs running to over seven and a half million dollars, a number that tragically continues to rise year by year. In an attempt to keep up with these increasing costs, the RCCS team is continuously working to create new and innovative fundraising measures. One successful innovation which has become well-known in Jewish communities across the United States has proven to be the annual Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society Chinese Auction.
This years’ auction, themed Emotions was created with the goal in mind of addressing the excruciating pain that is experienced by a patient and their family as they face the diagnoses of cancer. It is also meant to detail how RCCS has made it their business to go to any length to eradicate this pain as best as they can.
RCCS launched this year’s round of neighborhood house parties as the FACE OFF Campaign. Come face to face with inspiring Women of Wonder, who just like you, possess deeply caring hearts and share your passion to ease the sorrow of our brothers and sisters in pain. United, we can liberate cancer patients from their sad, dark moments and transport them to a place of hopeful joy. As a lead up to the live auction drawing taking place on December 22, women across town are coming together as they host their own mini-auction party for friends & family.
