Over 2,500 people braved the rain and celebrated the Jewish holiday of Chanukah at the annual kickoff concert at Brooklyn’s Largest Menorah.
Entertaining the enthused crowd were local sensations Pey Dalid and Shulem Lemmer.
Rabbi Shimon Hecht of Chabad in Park Slope encouraged the crowd to take the warmth of Chanukah from the streets back into their homes. He also brought attention to the Rebbe’s message that kindling this Menorah “lights up the entire world.”
NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio was honored with lighting the Shamash. He expressed his admiration for the event, commented on the overwhelming crowd size, and proclaimed to all that the warmth and light of NYC will overpower any negativity in the world.
Mr. Adam Kaufman of Arbor Crowd was given the great honor of lighting the first candle and distributing gifts to all of the children.
Also sharing warm regards was Corey Johnson, Speaker of NYC Council. Representing Governor Coumo was Ms Ronnie Hakim, Director of the MTA.
Wow this is really beautiful keep up the good work Rabbi Hecht
Increasing investigation into Yeshivas?! Tell him, “Sorry mate, not honouring you this time!!”
We are the Aibishter’s kinderlach! Don’t need to take this from these guys!
I just want you to know that I had so much fun at the candle lighting ceremony it was amazing. Rabbi Hecht is an incredible Force for good and has been for so long. I’m sure that his father JJ of blessed memory is so proud of his achievements!
Thank you rabbi hecht and Chabad of park slope for making such a beautiful concert and making such a kiddish hashem.
It was really cool to see the mayor and I’m sure it added tremendously to the persumei nisa.
Shulem lemmer rocked it!
Kudos to Rabbi Hecht, everything correct
Politicy too! Yrushalyim shelzahav, G-d bless America and mayor blasio , perfect!!
beautiful evening fun was had by all
thank you rabbi shimon
The Mayor and the Jewish democrats on the city council are not increasing funding for more police and more surveillance cameras. There are hundreds of millions of dollars in budget money. Millions for supportive housing and homeless shelters but only $2500 for cameras on Kingston Ave. The Jewish machers smile while the average yid, has to keep looking behind him. Ask the Jewish city council caucus to fund more cops and more cameras.

What an honor to have the “GREAT” Mayor of NY at the event😭😭!!
I would rather DeBlasio would stop the antisemitic crime and skip the menorah lighting than make a show of his face while not dealing with the rise of antisemitic crime in our neighborhood.
