Chevra Simchas Shabbos V’Yom Tov created a new Pushka which was mailed to all Crown Heights families. You are encouraged to place it in your home and drop in money each day according to your financial capabilities. This is a great way to fulfill the Mitzvah of Tzedaka (charity) each day.
Over 40 years ago The Rebbe initiated CSSY to provide Crown Heights needy families with food for Shabbos and Yom Tov. Today, CSSY distributes food vouchers and other necessities to over 100 families every week for Shabbos, and over 250 families each Yom Tov.
By using this Pushka you can fulfill the Mitzvah of Tzedaka in one of the highest forms possible, as our Chazal say – “עניי עירך קודמין – when distributing funds, the poor of your city come first”. CSSY assists the needy in OUR community! We are all responsible for one another and by supporting CSSY you help everyone enjoy Shabbos and Yom Tov in true dignity.
The Rebbe often stressed the importance of giving Tzedaka before lighting Shabbos and Yom Tov candles. The new Pushka has been specially designed to add beauty and glory to your Shabbos table. By placing this Pushka near the candles you will be reminded about the importance of helping those who cannot afford a Shabbos and Yom Tov table of their own.
