For the first time, the north of Crown Heights was lit with 6 public Menorah lightings.
More than 400 people gathered at 6 public Menorah lightings in the streets of the gentrifying north of Crown Heights from the West to the East to enjoy and celebrate the great miracle of Chanukah.
The idea was initiated by The Lincoln Place Shul and Beis Hamedrash who organized for the third year the Lincoln Place lighting on the second night.
After the crowd repeated the 12 Pesukim, donuts and chocolate gelt were distributed and lots of prizes were raffled off nightly.
Special thanks to Shneur Nejar’s family who made possible the St. Johns Menorah lighting on the third night, Mayer Rosenberg’s family who made possible the Sterling Place West Menorah lighting on the fourth night, Tzvi Tauby’s family who made possible the Park Place West Menorah lighting on the fifth night, Mendy Weg’s family who made possible the Park Place East Menorah lighting on the sixth night, Sholom Ber Perelstein’s family who made possible the Sterling Place East Menorah lighting on the eighth night.
Rabbi Meyer Shushan from The Lincoln Place Shul relates:
“Sunday, when I was purchasing the donuts in 770 for the first public Menorah lighting, I went to the sidewalk to pick up the four dozens donuts I had just paid for. Before taking the boxes, I opened them to make sure of the amounts. I suddenly heard someone asking “Ma Ze?” with a French accent.
I turned to him and answered the secular looking gentleman, explaining that these are donuts for sale. He asked me, what is the price? I told him that I got a wholesale price because I have just purchased 60 donuts inside the Shul for $45 to distribute to public Menorah lightings in Crown Heights.
The man asked his friend, how much is 45 times 7? He replied about 320, and the gentleman handed me $400 saying, “This is for the donuts for all the public Menorah lightings you organize this Chanukah, Chag Sameach!” And he disappeared in the limo cab waiting for them.
This example of Hashgocha Protis (Divine providence) has really empowered me even more, that what we are doing was the right thing,” Shusan said.

We hosted one night and it was so special! Thanks for arranging Rabbi S!
Many of these “gentrified” young adults moving into the neighborhood are Jewish. Kol hakavod to all involved especially the organizers.
Where is this Shul? Cross streets?
