New York Assemblyman David Weprin, who is running to become the next Comptroller for New York City, toured the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn on Sunday.
Walking up and down Kingston Avenue, he met with business owners and residents to hear from them about local concerns and what they would like to see from the next Comptroller.
The 2021 New York City Comptroller election will consist of Democratic and Republican primaries for New York City Comptroller on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, followed by a general election on November 2, 2021.
The Comptroller is the Chief Financial Officer of New York City. An independently elected official, he safeguards the City’s fiscal health, roots out waste, fraud and abuse in local government, and ensures that municipal agencies serve the needs of all New Yorkers.
Other candidates for the office are Speaker of the NYC Council Corey Johnson, Councilmember Brad Lander, State Senators Kevin Parker and Brian Benjamin, CNBC reporter Michelle Caruso-Cabrera and entrepreneur Zach Iscol.
Incumbent New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer is barred from running for a third term by term limits.
Weprin highlighted during his visit how he is the leading frum Jew in the race, and that he is also the only candidate who is anti-defunding the police.
He also announced that he plans to open an office in each of the boroughs, so as to make the resources and assistance that the Comptroller provides more accessible.
