The Republic of Moldova continues to be under a State of Public Health Emergency that will be effective until August 31 to battle the outbreak of Covid-19 in the Eastern European country.
Until 22 July 2020, there have been registered 21,798 confirmed cases in Moldova, out of which 14,856 patients recovered and 712 persons with Covid-19 died.
As the local Jewish community was facing these challenges, they found support by the Chabad of Moldova led by veteran Shlucha Rebbetzin Leah Abelsky and her children Rabbi Yossef Abelsky and Rabbi Zushe Abelsky.
“During these past few months, with all the chaos due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the community in Moldova turned to us for guidance, necessities and love,” they told COLlive.com.
The Shluchim were able to provide the community with food packages, aid to the elderly and whatever else was needed.
Many individuals and families would not have hot meals and other necessities during this time without Chabad’s help, they noted.
Another ray of light has been the blessing of 3 new members of the communities – babies born to local Shluchim in Moldova.
A baby girl named Rivka was born to Rabbi Shmuel and Chaya Zalmanov, a baby boy named Yossi was born to Rabbi Mendy and Leah Gotsel, and Rabbi Mendy and Chaya Axelrod had a baby boy as well whom they named Levy Yitzchak.
“May the newborn children bring loads of Nachas to their parents and may they merit to raise them to a life of Torah, Chuppah and Maasim Tovim,” Rabbi Zushe Abelsky commented.
