Chidon or matzah for pesach?
With less than 3 days left to register, Tzivos Hashem has been getting hundreds of calls and emails for help.
“To our sadness, parents have been calling and telling us they just don’t have the money to pay for their child – or children – to participate,” Shimmy Weinbaum, general of the Chayolei Tzivos Hashem brigade, told COLlive. “Parents say they have money either for Matzah or for the Chidon. They just don’t have money for both.”
Weinbaum is asking Chabad around the world to help make these children’s dream for participating in the Chidon come true.
“Masser from the stimulus checks… or any other way to help families in need, please help. We don’t want to let the children down,” he says.
Shimmy says: “My heart breaks when parents break down saying: I have watched my kids study for every single day for eight months. They know all 613 mitzvos. How can I tell them they can’t participate? But I simply don’t have the money.”
Weinbaum is at a loss as well.
Aside from what the parents pay for, Tzivos Hashem must raise $800,000 to cover the cost of the Chidon.
“Boruch Hashem, we have done very well so far and have raised over $450,000 thanks to very generous donors,” Shimmy says. “But with $350,000 more to raise, it’s just impossible for us to cover the costs alone.”
“I am turning to the public, if there is anyone out there that can help. If it’s maaser from your stimulus checks or any other way you can help, Please contact me via what’s app 917 627 7636,” he says.
This money will ONLY go to parents that reach out to me for help so that their children can get the reward that they truly deserve.

Dear Rabbi Weinbaum. I know you told me when I reached out to me that you could not help. You seemed very overwhelmed with the amount of money you had to raise. But you did not just listen and hang up the phone. You made an effort to reach out to people for help. To all those reading this post. Please understand the chidon is the best program we have. It truly motivates our children. They spend 100 hours plus of their spare time learning. The knowledge they gain is incredible. It builds their self esteem and makes them feel… Read more »
Shimmy thank you for your hard work and dedication
To whom this may concern. The chidon is truly by far the most motivating program we have to today. The passion for learning that its created is priceless. We all appreciate your hard work. BUT WHY ARE YOU GIVING EVERYTHING AWAY FOR FREE. Parents pay thousands for camp. Your program would be totally covered if you charged $370. Charge the full $370 and then send parents a cupon code for $185 and they will thank you forever. And many will not even ask for a cupon they will just pay the $370 Instead you take upon yourself to raise $800,000… Read more »
I really hope some people will step up to the plate to help. I have no one else to turn too. Thank you to those who have or will do.
