Following the call of the Lubavitcher Rebbe to spread the light of Chanukah in public areas, over 1500 people from all walks of life converged on Reddacliff Place in the heart of Brisbane CBD for an evening of light, warmth, entertainment, and great kosher food.
The MC of the event was David Paratz, Immediate Past President of the Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies, who praised Chabad for the wonderful work they perform in Brisbane and throughout the world.
Among the guests were local, state and federal politicians, who addressed the crowd with words of support for the event and the Jewish community, expressing their continued support for the work of Chabad Brisbane.
The music on the night was provided by acclaimed Hamsa Band based in Byron Bay. It was electrifying, drawing many people from the audience to join lively dancing in front of the stage.
A vibrant interactive musical children’s show was also provided by Shai Shriki, band leader of Hamsa Band.
The Tefillin booth saw unprecedented success alongside the many Menorahs and Chanukah candles distributed.
The 12 special Torah Pesukim (verses) were recited word by word by the children led by Rabbi Levi Jaffe, Chabad Shliach and Rabbi at The Brisbane Synagogue, followed enthusiastically by the crowd.
The highlight of the evening was the emotional kindling of the majestic and beautifully designed 6-metre Menorah by communal stalwart and survivor of the Shoah George Stien.
The evening concluded with a sensational acrobatic fire show, thrilling the audience with their amazing talent.
“Chanukah in the City” which was organized by Chabad Brisbane, is one of its many exciting and enriching programs offered to the Brisbane community and regions beyond.
Chabad Brisbane thanks; The Brisbane City Council, The Queensland Police Service and the Queensland State Government, along with the CSG and other communal organisations, individuals and businesses, for their generous support of this event.
A bouquet of thanks is extended to the many wonderful and selfless communal volunteers for their dedication and contribution to the great success of the evening.
