Rabbis in Budapest recently gathered to make an exciting announcement for the local Jewish community: An Eruv has been built to allow them to carry outdoors on Shabbos freely.
Leading the initiative was Rabbi Baruch Oberlander, Hungary’s Head Shliach, and Av Beis Din of the Chareidi Communities of Budapest.
Rabbi Oberlander has been a staunch supporter of creating an Eruv in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, following the rulings of the Alter Rebbe, founder of Chabad and author of Shulchan Aruch Harav. Local rabbis object to the idea.
The new Hungarian Eruv will be covering Pest, which is the eastern part of Budapest, making up about two-thirds of the city’s territory. It’s separated from the western parts of Budapest, Buda and Óbuda, by the Danube River.
Rabbi Oberlander said his “Mehudar Eruv” was in consultation with known expert rabbis and will be under his supervision. Every week, a mashgiach will be inspecting the Eruv line to make sure it hasn’t been damaged.
Regular updates about the Eruv and its map can be read at eruv.hu

I commend Harav Oberlander for making this happen.
This is not actually rabbi Motel. I know him, and he wouldn’t support it. He has written extensively on this subject based on halacha and the Rebbe’s directives, and we know his opinion.
The Crown Heights rabbonim won’t make statements about the Budapest Eruv. What a novel idea!
If the Rabbonim of Crown Heights said there should be no eiruv in Crown Heights, it is inappropriate to say that Rabbi Oberlander supports the building of an eiruv in CH! It is chutzpa.
We need someone like Rabbi oberlander in Crown heights. Maybe he’d consider running for Rav
