Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba, a senior member of the Crown Heights Beis Din (Badatz CHK), is publically dismissing claims that kapotas manufactured by Sacho Clothiers may contain shatnez.
“Being that this thread has the majority of non linen (in it), therefore according to halacha and the Tzemach Tzedek, and as brought down in Minchas Yitzchok, there is no question because it is batel b’rov (nullification in the majority),” Rabbi Osdoba said this week.
In a video provided to COLlive.com, Rabbi Osdoba added: “Even more so, even if you can see it, it is not a problem. Especially since you need a microscope to see it – which is ridiculous because there is no such a thing that something that needs a microscope should be an issue.”
Rabbi Osdoba was responding to a notice sent out by Rabbi Moshe Bresler of Vaad L’Mishmeres Shatnez alerting the public that “shatnez laboratories have discovered and verified a percentage of kapotehs manufactured by Sacho Clothiers to be shatnez.”
Rabbi Bresler went on to say that “no shatnez laboratory is known to exist in Crown Heights.” R’ Ezra Cohen has been serving as the shatnez checker in Crown Heights for over 20 years and is based out of Regency Cleaners at 381 Kingston Ave.
Rabbi Osdoba stated in the video that Sacho kapotas, sold out of Primo Hatters, are “kosher 100% and anyone that wants to say differently is literally going against it halacha.”
Sacho also submitted his Kapotas to a lab for testing, and results dated June 13, 2018, state that the fibers are made of rayon, bast and cotton. It also states that some of the fibers have the appearance of ramie and linen, but are not.

They have a signe at cash register reminding each customer about shatness checking
You still need to test your garment that you bought from primo!!!!!because Rabbi Ozdoba only answered about the single garment that they asked him about
However in China where these garment originated, each garment is stiffened with RANDOM Material so one garment can’t tell about the next garment and the straightforward halacha -Yorah Deah 302 siif 2-which states that “when buying a woolen garment from a goy you must have it tested extremely well” still applies.
Even to silk garment because the frontal breast stuffing is usually woolen garment
When in doubt check it out
But out of fabric was not fabric in question – was a fiber of a thread – that is made up of a piece that is placed under the collar – hatzlocha
There obviously is wool in the wool kapota. The sample is of the “questionable” fabric used in a part of the garment that someone had claimed had linen. If you look at the percentages of that fabric you will see that there is no room for additional fibers since the named fibers total %100.
Nobody is claiming the thread contains both wool and linen. The claim is that the thread contains linen, and therefore makes the woolen garment shatnez.
He IS a real Halachic authority.
I greatly respect Harav Osdoba.
Just wondering why the Rov is saying “this SHATNEZ” is kosher?
Why use the word shatnez?
Ksiva V’ chasima tova to ALL collive readers.
After speaking to Primo they told me – This was a test of a thread in the collar of the kapotas in question –
It’s a pleasure to hear R’ Osdoba.
His words are pure without drama and all sourced based.
I feel like I’m listening to real Halachic authority .
I see rayon, bast and cotton. What about wool?
