In my mind it is the best kept secret in the Catskills.
Rabbi YY Jacobson‘s Sunday morning class for men (women are welcome too). It is brilliant, stimulating, inspiring and simply extraordinary. It is real learning on the highest level.
If you want real intellectual and spiritual pleasure, this is the most attractive “activity” in the Catskills.
Each Sunday morning, at 10 AM, at Evergreen Estates, people from all stripes and colors — talmedei chachamim at the side of business people — sit down for a shiur with the renowned Rabbi Jacobson.
Our master teacher delivers a 90 minute class which intertwines serious Niglah and halacha, weaving it together with history, philosophy, and mysticism along with practical real-life advice.
The Torah concepts he discusses come alive and take on new meaning. It is a wonderful way to start the week. It gives you perspective, depth, knowledge, and mainly — Yiddishkeit becomes alive.
I travel each week from my bungalow colony to come participate in the class. There is even someone who sells smoothies and milkshakes and can have them delivered right to the shul to the shuir. I felt that I must share this secret with the general public.
As Tu B’Av just passed, the time when we ought to increase in our learning, I felt compelled to share this “secret” right here on COLLive.
Taamu Ureu! Come and see how Geshmak Torah is!
zalmen wailhelm!!!
i actually heard about his sunday morning shiurim from a few people and i heard really nice things about it. maybe i’ll drop in next time 🙂
Thank you for sharing this ‘best activity’. I live on the West Coast and wish I could join such a live and stimulating shiur in a relaxed country setting. A really beautiful and meaningful way of spending a Sunday morning!

I was by the catskills in ס”ו (or perhaps it was in the mem’s – no, definitely in the samachs) and לכאורה I thought to myself: why do i need such bungalow communities? Where’s the מעלה in them? I then discovered these shiurim, and OH what joy did i receive from them!
