Only one year has passed since the launch of the highly anticipated “Heaven on Earth Shlichus Internship Programme” for Sem Beis age Shluchos in Cape Town, and already a lot of interest is being generated for the launch of pilot year two, planned for September 2024.
Zeesy Deren, coordinator of the program, commented that “the presence of the girls in our Shlichus, in the Schools, the Shuls, and the homes of the families of the visit is simply transformative. We are so excited to be already planning, with this year’s girls, how to enhance and enrich the program even more for next year.”
The three different options of where the girls are based offer a variety of Shlichus styles and host Shluchim, each with their own unique flavor and style.
During the evenings, the girls have a chance to learn from different Shluchim and Shluchos and are able to grow in every way.
Coming to South Africa was quite a leap for Reva Levin from Crown Heights, but one that she is definitely happy that she took. “Coming on Shlichus to Cape Town is the greatest gift you can give yourself!” She says. “You’ll be learning from the best, and you will grow so much with all the support, inspiration, and encouragement from all the shluchim and leaders in the community. I have gained so many skills and grown my capabilities as a Morah and a shlucha, and it’s been so rewarding to see the positive impact we make on the students and every person we meet.”
“There is also so much opportunity here to learn with the most incredible rabbis, role models and mentors. The Cape Town Jewish community is one of a kind with their warmth, positive energy, and hospitality. It truly feels like home, and the beauty of Cape Town itself, also happens to be heaven on earth:)”
And even for someone growing up on the sunny shores of the West Coast, like Chaya Muchnick from Oxnard, California, the Cape Town experience was something remarkable. “Here in Cape Town, I have a warm and loving environment where I can develop my skills as a Morah, Shlucha, friend, and big sister 🙂 Every day is a new adventure, with constant motivation for growth and meaningful impact. I feel like I’m getting a taste of Moshiach times here, and I feel so lucky to be part of the magic of shlichus!”
