Boy Sitting Shiva at Bar Mitzvah

Today should have been a happy day for Yonatan. It’s his 13th birthday, a day that most boys look forward to for years.

However a normal celebration became impossible three days ago, when his father, Rav Moshe Zeev Dror zt”l, was found unconscious in the neighborhood mikveh. Emergency responders were unable to revive him.

Rabbi Dror left behind a widow and 13 children. The Dror family is grieving, and truly poor. They are sitting shiva now in their modest Jerusalem apartment.

Elisheva Dror, 19, is engaged to be married next month. It is unclear how they will manage to cover the absolute basics, let alone make a simcha.

A bar mitzvah is often a special time of bonding between a father and his son. However today, Yonatan had no father to take him to shul.
