Bochurim Bring Purim Joy to Rome

Over one thousand Jews experienced the joy of Purim this year in Rome, Italy, by a group of Bochurim from Yeshivas Tomchei Tmimin Brunoy, France.

The group consisted of Menny Greenberg, Shneur Zalman Chaviv, Moishe Golomb, Binyamin Canarutto, Mendel Altein, Leibel Shaikevitz, Michael Bassali, Mendel Belinow and Moshe Hildesheim. They were arranged and brought over by the Shliach Rabbi Ronnie Canarutto, who was sent on Shlichus to Rome in 5765.

The Bochurim managed in the few hours of Purim to read the Megillah upwards of 45 times, get 50 plus men to lay Tefillin, including 3 Karkaftas, and gave out over 650 prepackaged Mishloach Manos for Jews to do the mitzvah.

To add to the festive air, Rabbi Ronnie Canarutto arranged a mitzvah tank for the Bochurim to use which went around the city to attract the attention of the thousand tourists that visit there from all around the world and the local Jewish community.

The bochurim focused their time besides all the tourist places around Rome, in the old Jewish ghetto of Rome where hundreds of tourists visit daily and many were inspired and motivated by the chayus and warmth that the Bochurim conveyed.

Following Mivtzoyim Rabbi Canarutto held a Purim farbrengen in the home of the Canarutto family with the young community members joining in.

“I have never seen such a big necessity for Mivtzoyim,” said one Bochur, “and I am so glad to be a part of it.”
