Over the last five years, a grassroots effort to connect hundreds of Jews in Langley BC, Canada, has turned out to be an over the top success!
It all started with a Passover Seder that Bentzion Schtroks, A 19 year old bochur at the time, together with a two of his friends, Meir Deren and Mendy Oirechman arranged and conducted in 2019. 55 people participated! This was the first event of its kind in a city that never before had a official active Jewish presence.
Rabbi Falik and Simie Schtroks are the shluchim to the region since 1996, and have been servicing yidden in all of the various cities throughout the years.
When the pesach seder in Langley proved to be an impressive success, it became clear that there was a need for local programing in Langley itself.
Since then, Bentzion has continued going back to Langley together with other bochurim, including Shabi Soffer, Meir Deren, Mendel Goldberg and others, during bein hazmanim, hosting robust community yomtov events, and doing lots of mivtzoim in an effort to build Jewish community and bring Yiddishkeit to Langley. BH the turnout at these events have doubled and tripled!
With tremendous brachos, 100’s of Jewish brothers and sisters were touched and inspired through these events, empowering a bright future for Yiddishkeit in the city.
With Hashem’s help over the coming year, the group of bochurim will be increasing their visits to Langley above and beyond the activities done until now.
Many community events, and an array of programing are being planned, increasing the presence and impact of Yiddishkeit in the area. A brand new CTeen Jewish Teen Club is also being launched with ongoing monthly teen events!
The direct costs of these programs will exceed $100,000. (zero overhead!)
A crowd-funding campaign has been launched, turning to caring yidden like you to kickstart a year of grassroots efforts, reaching hundreds of Jews, with a goal to raise $70k in 72 hours.
The first $10k donated is matched thanks to generous matchers, Rabbi Yossi and Mica Soffer, and Mr. Shalom Laytin.
