A terrible tragedy in Monsey has left one Yeshiva Bochur dead and another with serious injuries.
At around midnight (Wednesday night – Thursday morning), the two Bochrim were standing on the sidewalk on Haverstraw Road in Suffern NY, when a vehicle swerved out of control, jumping the curb and striking both boys. A second vehicle was struck as well.
Hatzolah of Rockland along with EMS and other emergency personnel rushed to the scene – which was in front of Yeshiva Tiferet Torah.
One Bochur was found in traumatic arrest. Hatzolah Paramedics did everything they could to save his life. Tragically, he was R”L pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital.
The second Bochur was taken to Westchester Trauma Center, where he is listed is serious but stable condition.
The driver of the vehicle was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in stable condition.
The driver is reportedly an off-duty police officer.
The Ramapo Police Department was on the scene conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash.
Local Askonim are working with officials to ensure proper Kavod Hames is given. Additional information will be published pending proper notifications.
Please say Tehillim for David Yosef ben Leah.
Sources tell YWN that the two boys are not from the United States.

Way too often the media contorts the facts when anything happens that concerns a Yid. The p.o. was likely intoxicated & speeding. Recklessness to be sure.
We must demand Moshiach! We don’t know why such horrible accidents happen – the family and all of klal Yisroel should be comforted with Moshiach now! Hashem please live with the parsha of the week and expand our borders now with the coming of Moshiach – turn the murder of these boys into something positive for their neshomos – three new arai miklot with the coming of Moshiach now! We must demand Moshiach! Ad mosai! Enough already!
The hachlata should be to add in achdus and ahacas yisroel as it is a known cause according to chazal and other sources for tragedy not using a cell is not an hachlata but rather Halacha that should be kept regardless an hachlota is to add on more than just Halacha say hello to someone you’ve been avoiding help someone in need go out of your way for someone twice a week and so on
Boy is from Argentina. bd”e
I am making a hachlotah in the zechus of all the niftarim from the past few weeks, I will not use my cell phone in Shul during davening, If i need to speak to someone will walk out.
may hashem hear all our prayers and grant us all a kesiva vachasima tovah and share in good news only, enough tzoros.
Cop was drunk.
This accident is being reported as a zoning violation that is the fault of the school these two bochurim were near. They say the school wasn’t zoned for that area- and that somehow excuses the fact that a driver drove onto a sidewalk and hit two boys. I think this attempt to blame the victim is typical of these times. Yeshiva world lists some of the media sources that are perpetrating this outrage.
I used to recommend this as a suggestion. Now, I think this should be mandatory! See the videos they made us watch (we were only 15 years old), when we had drivers-ed. Among them are as follows: “Wheels of tragedy” | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjM1Z4wjorM “Mechanized Death” | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDonq-3LVO8 In “Wheels of Tragedy,” near the end, the two patrol officers visit a home to inform the parents that their teenage kids were killed in an accident. After they enter the house, the mother asks, ” But why are you asking me all these questions about my daughter?” “I’m sorry, but there’s been an… Read more »
Shuckling in shul, wearing a white shirt, giving extra tzedaka, etc are all a good start but not nearly enough !! We must be honest and clean in business and in one’s personal affairs, be kind and giving to one’s husband/wife and children, control one’s anger and remember that HaShem watches us and sees EVERYTHING. Moshiach now.
an accident @ midnight 7 statinghe is an off duty p.o. what are they trying to hide? a vehicle doesn’t just jump the curve. I believe it was a High speed & b he ( the p.o.) was drunk or under the infuence of naarcotics what other explanation could it be?
Has hem yeracheim!!! Why are our yeshiva bachurim being karbonos . It’s not enough to say baruch dayan. We need action. Every single person needs to do a personal cheshbon hanefesh. Wbachurim being killed like this I’m the month of elul deserve us to take two minutes and ask what can be done. These poor poor parents.
I think we need look at ourselves in the mirror and do something to stop this Mageifah, there are too many of these tragedies striking our communities in such a short time.
I suggest maybe people stop using their cell phones in shul or at the very least during davening.
this is terrible
