A diverse crowd of 500 people attended the Bar Mitzvah celebration of the son of the Chabad Shluchim to Cyprus.
The event also marked 10 years since Rabbi Zeev and Shaindel Raskin arrived in Larnaca and established the Cyprus Jewish Community Center – Chabad Lubavitch of Cyprus.
Evidence of the headway the Raskins have made with their decade of activities, which includes a synagogue, mikvah, Jewish School, and Kosher food, were the hundreds of guests at the party.
Local Jewish residents joined visiting business people and a delegation of rabbis from Israel which included the Rebbe of Shotz, members of the Chief Rabbinate Rabbi Yehuda Dery, Rabbi Yaakov Roza and Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro.
These rabbis are consulted year-round by Rabbi Raskin on halachic issues that come up in the Mediterranean Sea island, a popular tourist destination for Israelis.
As customary, the Bar Mitzvah bochur Menachem Mendel Raskin said a Maamar Chassidus. He was than blessed by his grandparents R’ Yehoshua Raskin and Rabbi Yekusiel Farkash, a halachic authority in Jerusalem.
The boy’s uncle R’ Dudi Farkash, Gabbai of Congregation Beis Shmuel Chabad in Crown Heights, described to the guests the dedication that is needed to be a Chabad Shliach.
