Bais Rivkah at Campus Chomesh in Crown Heights held its annual Day of Learning on Wednesday, for all Hebrew and English staff from Headstart through Grade 8. The day of learning gathered the school’s educators for various workshops by professional educators on numerous topics.
The event was emceed by Mrs. Leah Jacobson, Elementary school English principal.
Mrs. Shifra Ehrlich revealed the truths about classroom social dynamics, student stress and focused on the role of the teacher in helping to shape the social skills of the students and manage their anxiety.
Mrs. Esther Fradel Schwartz focused on temperament, one of the components of the learning lens program. How understanding a child’s temperament will allow teachers to communicate and educate each student in a deeper, more meaningful way.
Mrs. Shulamis Roth, an NYS certified Speech and Language Pathologist, focused on methods to utilize when teaching Tanach to students with language difficulties.
Rabbi Betzalel Laufer presented a workshop for teachers of the Pre-1A and primary grade levels on kriah knowledge to guide teachers to successfully help each child learn the fundamentals of kriah.
Mrs. Basya Berg, a math educator in the Jewish community for over 20 years and an adjunct professor in Touro College, gave a workshop on math foundational skills.
Ms. Adina Broder, a professor at Touro Graduate School where she teaches curriculum development and classroom management for students with disabilities in Jewish Day School and a former attorney, gave a workshop providing teachers with tools for good classroom management.
Chana Weisberg, editor of TheJewishWoman.org completed the day’s talks and workshops, discussing the mission statement of Bais Rivkah, raising the future ‘akeres habayis’ of tomorrow.
The teachers who attended walked away excited and inspired and had a lot to say about the day.
“What a wonderful day and program!” said Ms. Chanie Hurwitz. “Being in a room with so many wonderful, caring, and talented teachers was humbling as well as an honor,” says Mrs. Danit Schusterman. Mrs. Nava Borisute said that there were definitely some life-changing tips.
“It was such an enjoyable day. Especially the effort that was put in making us all feel like royalty,” adds Mrs. Strauss.
A delicious lunch was served, made by the wonderful Bais Rivkah cook Smadar and a very special thanks to Chanie Shapiro and Rabbi Benny Wolf for ensuring the day went as smoothly and as successfully as it did.
