Bais Chana students in Orange, CT, got the royal treatment at a RoyalTea Party planned in honor of Vav Tishrei.
From a delicious dinner to getting their color palettes done, to a beautiful kumsitz, to sharing uplifting concepts on the nobility of tsnius, students were empowered to see how dignified they can be when their inner and outer beauty shine! All the concepts shared were compiled into a beautiful booklet given to each student.
The brainchild of Mrs Hindy Kalmenson, veteran Chumash teacher at Bais Chana, who has been trying to find a palatable and meaningful way to make today’s students feel good about tznius, and joined by BCA’s amazing Bnos Advisor, Mrs Mirel Laufer, and BCA’s incredible Bnos Heads, Tzippy Drukier and Lieba Kaplan, a memorable event was created, that was a truly fitting tribute to Rebbetzin Chana.
The camaraderie and joy felt at the RoyalTea party was magical! Held in a lovely backyard garden, students came dressed beautifully and left feeling excited and empowered to put their new hachlotos into practice, after all the inspiration they gleaned during the program. All students commented how unforgettable the event was, with one mentioning that she will tell her children about it one day! Even the parents jumped on board, with one offering to make a gorgeous 60 cake! To top off the evening, each student received a lovely silver bracelet! “Every time I wear the bracelet, I think of the event at which I received it, which was all about Tznius. It reminds me of my hachlata and gives me more strength and power to fulfill it,” commented 9th grader, Ella Eichler.
Sixty years ago, Bais Chana in Orange, CT was a fledgling school, newly opened by Rabbi Moshe Yitzchok Hecht. There were a few students, but the school had not been named. A few weeks into school, after Rebbetzin Chana passed away that year, Rabbi Moshe Hecht asked the Rebbe if he could name the new high school after the Rebbetzin. Permission was granted and 60 years later, Bais Chana in Orange, CT continues to proudly carry that name.
“Celebrating the 60th birthday of the school was a big deal, and we knew we wanted to do something special. Mrs Kalmenson’s idea was the perfect way to mark the occasion as it reflects what Bais Chana in Orange, CT is all about – giving our students a chinuch from the inside out. It’s one thing to talk to students about the importance of tsnius, but it’s far more effective when you can excite them and make them feel good, empowering them to make good choices and decisions in life,” said Mrs. Bluma Hecht, principal. “The message of tsnius we were trying to drive home was given over in such a beautiful way through this RoyalTea Party; students requested that this become a yearly event. Our hope for our students is that they carry on Rebbetzin Chana’s legacy by being proud, educated Bnos Chabad, following joyfully in her royal, dignified ways,” she added.
Students also received special stickers that were printed for the occasion as well as car magnets for their parents. For more info about Bais Chana, call 203-795-5261.
