Jewish music superstar Avraham Fried has commemorated the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks with releasing a preview of a new song in solidarity to the families of the victims.
The song, which Fried composed, was originally meant to be included in his latest album, but plans fell through and instead it was presented at a recent HASC concert and was arranged by Yisroel Lamm.
“I felt it was important to write something positive,” Fried told COLlive.com. “If 19 people can create so much negativity, imagine what we all can do to change the world for the better.”
He said the song has been “sitting around” for a while, and he plans to rerecord it for an upcoming English-Yiddish album.
“After tragic events the Lubavitcher Rebbe always encouraged Jewish people to look for that glimmer of light and hope and make the correct conclusion,” Fried told music site Shlager.net which posted the recording this week.
“That is what the song is actually about. One day in September changed our lives. It was no doubt a day of blinding darkness, however, we have the power to dispel it. It is in our hands,” Fried said.

LYRICS:
Some people say the world has gone mad
Evil has stolen the day
Some people say ‘Just throw in the towel’
I don’t feel that way
‘Cuz every good deed that you do
And every kind word that you say, has a way,
has a way to change the world
Chorus:
There is so much we can do to make this world,
A kinder better happier place
There is so much we can do to change the world
Let’s change the world today
That day in September changed our lives
The darkest day by far
Oh, they broke our heart but woke up our soul
We’ll show them who we are
‘Cuz we are towers of light
And we have the power to do what is right
Let’s illuminate the night
Chorus
Don’t need a reason or season my friend
You don’t need fortune or fame
Go out of your way, make someone’s day
Now that’s the name of the game
‘Cuz we are towers of light
And we have the power to do what is right
Let’s illuminate the night
Chorus
if its an old song where and when did he sing it i just heard it now on the new hasc 24 its a great song but is it new or old?
and, if it is old……a camp song…….who cares?? so many of the comments about the anniversary were about the spirit of unity and kindness that followed 9/11…people want it, they miss it. Thank you Avraham Fried. Let’s not be petty and find fault. The music is cheerful and upbeat, the message profound, and the actions SO needed. Let’s focus on working to live the message! Kol Hakavod!
