Reb Avi, a 45 year old father of 5 was niftar suddenly while undergoing a routine procedure. He was an amazing person, who always had a huge smile on his face. His genuine warmth and engaging personality allowed him to connect deeply with everyone around him.
The Grodsky Family moved to the Westgate community in Lakewood from Pittsburgh a few years ago.
Avi and his wife, both Balei Teshuva and wonderful people, worked hard to support and care for their 5 children ages 17 to 5. A 17 year old daughter, 15 year old son, 14 year old daughter, 10 year old son and 5 year old son. They have no family other than a brother in law Gavriel Yavorsky who many may know from NPGS.
As a teenager in Ukraine, Avi became frum under the guidance of the Chabad Rabbi of Donetsk, Rabbi Pinchos Vishedsky. Upon his arrival in the states Avi settled in Lakewood NJ where he worked as manager of the local Kosher Experience. After his marriage Avi moved to Staten Island for a few years. Avi lived his life as a proud Chabad Chassid. Upon moving back to Lakewood he joined the Lutzk Kehilla attending Shabbos and weekday minyanim and learning in the night Kollel each evening. He had a daily morning Seder with his Chavrusa Rabbi Moskowitz.
A brilliant fellow, Avi worked as a technician for “Carrier Air Conditioning” while his wife Naomi is a beloved Morah in Westgate. Although he was hard-working it was always a struggle to make ends meet. Their personal challenges notwithstanding, both Avi and his wife regularly gave up from their time and volunteered for local chessed projects whenever possible.
Although the Grodsky’s only recently have returned to Lakewood, dozens of people traveled to Staten Island for the Levaya. This highlights his remarkable character and his incredible ability to connect with others. Avi was extremely well liked by all those who knew him. Avi loved and cared for his family and did everything to support them bederech kavod. Albeit he had basic life insurance through his employer, the benefits are nowhere near enough to cover the funds needed for this family to go on.
The least we can do is stand by his wife Naomi and their children to help ensure they have a brighter future.
Please consider donating a higher sum over time so that these children can walk to their Chupah בדרך כבוד
We need Moshiach now!
