EXCLUSIVE: In honor of Yud Aleph Nissan, the Rebbe's 107th birthday, COL's Hebrew Magazine has gathered 10 unique paintings of the Rebbe with a short explanation by their artist. Some are drawn from an actual meeting, while others are drawn off another picture. The process meant a lot to them all. Full Story
1. Yael Okay: I decided to put the Kotel behind the Rebbe because it was a natural setting that matched for me with the Rebbe
2. Yael Avi Yona: The Rebbe is an inspiration for my drawings. I merited to become Chabad some 15 years ago
3. Ami Zeruv: The Rebbe was a prominent Jewish leader and it was natural that I would draw him
4. Greta Kuznitzuv: The Rebbe worried for all Jews from every sector, culture and country. I tried to blend this in the painting
5. Anat Edrey: In my childhood I grow up in Chabad and nourished from its special education. I tried to pass along his endless harmony
6. Dror Fried: My sister is a Chabadnik and because of her I decided to paint the Rebbe three years ago
7. Michael Chundiashvili: We are a very traditional family and we got close to Chabad. It took my about two months to draw this
8. Dr. Yehuda Chein: Unfortunately I never got to meet the Rebbe, but I'm a big admirer. His eyes had an expression we won't know
9. Yechiel Ofner: The Rebbe is at Birchas Habonim on Erev Yom Kippur. I merited to be there a few times
10. Baruch Nachshon: In the time of redemption, I see the world a moment after when everything will be better
in the seventh painting, why does the Rebbe have a sefardi Torah there?
it is common for an artist to portray his/her own emotions in a painting. only a true portrait artist can depict the person he is drawing with that person’s own personality. unprofessional artists imply their own anxieties in their paintings. Nachshon is definitely professional. i may not like the Rebbe’s image to be used as clipart – but this painting in true to the Rebbe and true to Nachshon’s style. of all the painters, Nachshon probably had the closest relationship with the Rebbe. as for the feelings of the artists. i suppose you could say that about comments on any… Read more »
I dont understand clearly, the people who drew these pictures well be looking at the comments, becasue for them it is an achievement to have their pictures online, so they’ll look at the comments etc.. and what will they see? mean comments from people?? why do you have to comment? what are you tryign to proove do you think that your comment is going ot change something? if you dont like it dont comment! dont be rude about it! its really not nice! think next time before you bash someone…
should i post mine?
I have a lot of them!!
its nice that ppl try, but thats just not him!
and it isnt proper to post these pics!
They are unbelievable…
I wish i could draw/paint like that.
Well done to those who did them…
Some of these are really amazing!
I’m sorry but I think its a disgrace to the rebbe to paint such pictures.Someone who cant drwaw the rebbe shouldnt and certainly not post them online.the only decent one is #7, all the others make the rebbe look like….
Zalman Klinman has a majestic pictureof the Rebbe
These are all nice pieces of art. Period.
There are different styles of portraits that artists use, some are supposed to look more realistic and some more abstract/artistic.
I saw a very realistic-style looking drawing of the Rebbe at the goldstien’s in Crown Heights. it looked like a photograph from the distance.
Me too
love #1 and #6 – gorgeous. ps why do the rude comments#2 have to be posted pple that dont like it shouldent comment. noone asked them.
I am not an artist, but I would never have any of the above paintings hanging in my living room.
You could all do better if you cared

Moshiach Now!
They are beautiful…I wish I could afford at least one! I particularly like Baruch Nachshon’s.
Chundiashvili’s painting #7 is the more in depth one
Paintings are not meant to copy or reproduce reality. For that we have photos and videos.
Art, a painting, paints reality in a new light; gives the world a fresh and personal perspective. (Like the Rebbe at the Kotel: It didn’t happen yet, but we all hope will happen very very soon)
Boruch Nachson’s rebbe picture looked like the Rebbe the most, but i couldn’t figure out what the head was coming out from
Im sorry but no painting can actually capture who the rebbe was and what the rebbe looked like, in fact these are horrible displays, i dont think any of them look like the rebbe at all.
what is the last painting supposed to be exactly?
