Over two hundred descendants of the Alter Rebbe gathered on Motzoei Shabbos for their annual gathering in the Chovevei Torah hall in Crown Heights.
Ahead of his Yartzeit on the 24th of Teves, Lubavitcher and other haredi Chassidim gathered to celebrate their family connection to Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, founder and first Rebbe of Chabad and the author of the Shulchan Aruch HaRav, Tanya and the Siddur Torah Or.
Chairman of the Tze’etzoim organization Rabbi Shmuel Butman, who organizes the event with his son Rabbi Yossi Butman, welcomed the guests – who are actually family – and divided the Shulchan Aruch Harav between the participants to learn in a year’s time.
Amongst the speakers – all descendants of the Alter Rebbe: Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Beck, Rabbi of the Tcherkas community in Monsey; Rabbi Chaim Moshe Gendenovitch, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Sefas Emes in Jerusalem; Rabbi Tzvi Teltzner, Dayan of the Lubavitch community in Melbourne, Australia; and Rabbi Bentzion Twerski.
A special moment at the event was the Daled Bovos niggun, composed by the Alter Rebbe, sung by Rabbis Shalom Dovber Schneerson, his son Mendel Schneerson, Schneor Zalman Baumgarten and others.
The main speaker at the evening was Rabbi Leibel Groner, a member of the Rebbe’s secretariat and a grandson of Rebbetzin Menucha Rachel Slonim – daughter of the Mitteler Rebbe.
“The anxiety of the moment is the financial situation,” Groner said. “It is hurting the existence of Yeshivos, educational institutions and Chesed organizations. We must strengthen ourselves with learning more Torah and giving more Tzedokah.
“From the place there was weakness, there will come salvation – as our rabbis said that the deeds in the world operate in this order: Chesed, Din and Rachamim (kindness, judgement and mercy).”
how idiotic, you sound like a kid, and 10 generations later i dont expect his desendents to look like him, besides how do you know what He looks like, the only picture is an artists impression no basis for it at all!
Who went?
i didn’t go anywhere.
I’m still here.
Where are you?
You’re here too.
So why panic?
Let’s thank G-d that we’re all here and that those who are here are “all there.” And all who are there, will one day be here. And those who are here will hear what is said there (in alma d’iskasya) and implement it here (olam hazeh).
Interestingly, none of the tzetzaim actually look like the Alter Rebbe.
to #2 your comment was excellent.
Finally people start realizing how far we went
what happened to satmar they hold of the alter rebbes shulchan aruch and sing some of his niggunim
I think he would be happy his female descendants pictures are not put out for the public!
(why don`t people ever think about the Torahs point of view?!)
wow all of his descendants are men : )
