Assemblyman Jack MacNeny presented an official New York State proclamation honoring Albany’s communal Birkat Hachama celebration of over 200 people, including Montreal/New York travelers, expanding this year’s “Hakhel” experience.
At the event, a “Jewish Time-Capsule” was encrypted inside a brick pillar to be opened at the next Birkat HaChamah April 8, 2037.
“In the Passover spirit of transmitting our experiences from one generation to the next,” said the Capital Region Shliach Rabbi Yisroel Rubin.
The event also included a Siyum for Bechorim, and concluded with the Burning of Chametz.
In a Yud Alef Nisan tribute with NYS speaker Sheldon Silver at the Capital, Rabbi Rubin referred to the Talmudic statement (Sanhedrin 101): “Rebbi surpasses the sun cycle, enduriong in this world, and in the next world.”
As part of the Birkat Hachama event, the Maimonides school joined NASA’s “Sun is Yours to Discover” Solar Week with classroom activities and games.
