The block of Kingston Avenue between Montgomery Street and Empire Boulevard is continuing to go through changes and developments – now with the sale of one of its oldest shops.
Mordechai Korolitzky, owner of the 23 year-old Albany Bakery in Crown Heights, has recently sold his branch at 425 Kingston Avenue to roaring entrepreneur Itzik Benabu, COLlive has learned.
Korolitzky said he will now focus his time on expanding the main location at 337 Albany Avenue within the next few weeks “with many more options to enhance the shopping experience.”
“We will continue to offer great food and great service,” he said, pointing out that he will continue to offer free delivery, and cater small simches and parties of any kind.
It was not clear what would become of the Kingston Avenue store.
Benabu, a Crown Heights businessman whose most recent acquisitions include Kingston Pizza, was not available for comment. Glick’s Bakery of Williamsburg already operates from the Benabu owned Empire Kosher Market a couple of blocks away.
Meanwhile there has been no visible changes in the operation or the products of the “Albany Bakery” on Kingston as it remains open for the time-being. An associate of Benabu told COLlive the decision of what to do with it has yet to be made.
I’m sure there was a lot of thought put into this transaction. we’re looking foreward to a remodeled Albany Bake Shop. That will make the ENTIRE block of Albany Avenue between E.P./Union a really nice looking shopping block – and that’s great for the neighborhood! Hatzlochah Rabbah to Mordechai Korolitzky on this expansion venture. Hatzlochah, too, to Itzik B. . Itzik, If you’re reading this, please don’t leave the store on Kingston Avenue an empty shell for too long. Farkas’ grocery store, acquired years ago, looks like an eyesore on an otherwise nice business block (with the exciting exception, of… Read more »

#2 its very nice that you want Albany to turn into more of a shopping venue but please notice that Albany Bakery is on Kingston so i don’t see how Albany the street will benefit from the Bakery.

Community Board 9 has approved the renaming of Kingston Ave. The street will now be known as Ben-Abu Ave.
that he cleaned up the place, but that is all the changes he is doing. For now he is leaving it as is. I also heard that the ex-shuk is going to be gorgeous!
another one
i live nearby to albany baker on kingston ave.
it was my familys store for years …gotta walk all the way to albany now , but it’s worth it . best bakery products in ch!
What we realy need now is an upscale Fleishige restaurant. Not a fast food joint; we have plenty of those. Just a nice place to go to with a date, for couples, etc. Ester’s deli was the closest we had to this type of venue.
i love that store
It was dark and hidden down by Empire… I always went to the other one with the sliding door and the mexican workers behind the counter… they went out of their way to serve me bran muffins, cut open with good spreads of butter lining each side… and the variety of coffee is generous. B I L L
He’s taking over!
Hopefully for the good.
People shop there just for their great Challa. If they stop selling the same Challa in this store – I am no longer buying there.
we are excited for the upcoming renovations and remodeling that will make albany avenue a complete shopping avenue.
