The dinner, marking the opening of the new Merkaz Hachesed Beis Tavshil, which doubles as a soup kitchen and community chessed center, opened with a ceremony affixing the mezuza.
Rabbi Lider thanked the supporters, and remarked that in times of darkness we must increase our chesed, therefore they are creating this open house.
Public officials and community leaders attended, including New York Comptroller William Thompson and Rabbi Shea Hecht.
Mrs. Devora Halberstam said that she knows Rabbi Lider from her son Ari’s HY”D time, and knows how much a center such as this is needed in the community. She presented an award for outstanding support of the chesed center to Mr. Alvin Bernstone.
Ahavas Chesed supporters R’ Yossi Popack and R’ Mendel Levin pledged their commitment to ensuring the success of the center.
Mr. Rappaport of the Hamasbia organization in Boro Park attended, and remarked on the great work of Ahavas Chesed.
