Reports swirling in the gossip media about a celebrity couple turning to Kabbalah in an effort to fix their marriage, and sent Sheila Marikar of ABC News checking what can the ancient Jewish philosophy offer.
“According to those versed in the branch of Jewish mysticism… it’s the one thing the couple is probably doing right,” she reported.
Marikar has turned to Rabbi Aaron Raskin, Rabbi of Congregation B’nai Avraham and Director of Chabad of Brooklyn Heights, who is also an author and radio host.
“In Kabbalah it says that there are three people in every marriage: A man, a woman, and God,” he told ABC News. “There’s no question that the more you bring God into a marriage, the more you solidify the marriage.”
Raskin reckoned that it is possible to salvage a marriage in the wake of mistrust.
“You have to acknowledge the mistake, you have to regret that mistake, and then you have to abandon that way of life,” the Shliach said. “Then you have to have the birth of repentance by changing your ways.
“Unless it’s an abusive marriage and the husband is totally not trustworthy,” he added, “You should try to work on it.”
Although his advice was directed to non Jews, Rabbi Raskin recommended the couple adopting some rules from Taharas Hamishpacha, which he said is “the biggest secret to a happy marriage.”
