Chana Leah Bleznick is on a mission to bring tznius, high-quality tichels to women in Crown Heights. Bleznick, a legal advocate originally from Arizona, is now celebrating her company’s one-year anniversary with customers worldwide.
The super-comfortable tichels have a unique stylish flair, and are perfect for those who want to look great while having all their hair covered.
In the early days of her marriage, Bleznick struggled with tichels that quickly ruined in the wash, and slid around her head as she went about her daily activities. “I had a hard time finding tichels that lasted for more than two months and also didn’t fall off,” she says.
Bleznick’s ideal tichel is one where the elastic holds up, and the fabric doesn’t pill. She scoured the market for quality, and when she found something she loved, she would buy them for her friends, too. “I would travel to Monsey and Boro Park to find the high-quality tichels, pre-tied tichels that I could not find locally.”
By the end of July of 2020, her friends were begging her for more. Bleznick’s husband proposed the idea of selling her beloved high-quality tichels to women in Crown Heights. So, Chana Leah opened a retail store and began carrying her favorite brands right from her living room. It evolved from there. Eventually, Bleznick had so many requests that she was able to contract with her own factory.
The exclusive brand, named Tichel My Fancy, carries tichels in a multitude of colors and materials. Styles range from sophisticated geometric patterns to velvet fuschias, rich turquoise, deep olive greens, and more. The tichels are designed according to customer’s requests. “I kept hearing ‘I want long tails,'” Bleznick says. She now produces both long, and short tails to accommodate everyone.
Every woman can confidently wear a Tichel My Fancy while going about daily activities from playing with the kids, to working, and sleeping. The pre-tied design makes it easy to put on and take off. “With chronic migraines,” says one reviewer, “wearing anything on my head can be painful. Thanks to Tichel My Fancy, I now have a couple of pain-free, easy-to-use tichels.”
“I absolutely love these tichels,” says another reviewer. “Every single tichel I have tried so far has fallen off my head a million times a night. Last night I wore one of yours and only had to adjust my tichel once! I love it!”
Tichel My Fancy is proud to support a staff of frum women – down to the seamstresses who hand-sew the non-slip tichels.
She also hosts an event called Shiur and Shop, where women can hear a live shiur, enjoy drinks and desserts, and then shop Tichel My Fancy at a discounted price.
Bleznick’s business know-how has grown exponentially since the early days. “I didn’t have a model in the beginning,” she said. “I just put the tichels on a bench and took pictures. I didn’t have a catalog.”
So much has changed since then. Bleznick, who sells her tichels online and via pop-up shops in Crown Heights and other nearby communities, has sold close to 1,000 units in the past year alone. She has shipped to countries around the world, including Australia, Costa Rica, Israel, Canada, Brazil, and England.
Tichel My Fancy also offers a new-mom package for all those buying a tichel six months after having a baby. She offers a kallah package and gift cards, as well.
“I’m really proud of the fact that people from kallahs to grandmothers say we make it much easier for them to do this mitzvah,” Bleznick says. She hopes to collaborate with more stores and expand access to her line, fulfilling her mission to help women live their lives beautifully, stylishly, and modestly.
