Ahead of this Pesach, the Monsey, NY Chabad community plans to give out more Matzah than ever before, in honor of the Rebbe’s 120th birthday on Yud Alef Nissan.
Each year, NCFJE of Rockland County, led by Rabbi Simcha Werner, gives out Shmurah Matzah to many individuals in the Rockland County area.
This year, the community has joined to take Mivtzah Matzah to “a whole new level,” they said, in honor of the 120th birthday of the Rebbe.
With the partnership of Vaad Or Vechom Hahiskashrus, hundreds of pounds of Shmurah Matzah are available for Chabad communities to give out to fellow Jews who otherwise will not have any.
All are encouraged to give out to co-workers, friends and acquaintances, and anyone they meet, who otherwise has no way to get Shmurah Matzah.
A streamlined system has representatives appointed in each of the 14 Chabad Shuls in Monsey, who people can ask for as much Matzah as they feel they can distribute.
“Anyone in the Monsey area who would like to join, should ask their Shul representative and we will provide Matzah to them free of charge,” said Rabbi Levi Tiechtel, one of the project’s organizers.
The Monsey community joins many other communities throughout the world who are working to give this gift to the Rebbe, to give out more Shmurah Matzah than ever before.
The Matzah will be subsidized by Or Vechom and NCFJE.
“The project will cost many thousands of dollars, but it is very exciting,” Rabbi Tiechtel said. “The initial response is very positive and we have received overwhelming interest. It is giving an opportunity to Chasidim to take part in the monumental gift to the Rebbe,” he said.
