The weather this past week did not dampen the spirits of those children with special needs who took part in Chabad’s Friendship Circle end of summer camp.
For some, it was the highlight of their summer. As one proud father exclaimed, “My boys had a better time here, this past week, then they had all summer long.”
Every day, each child along with their volunteer, participated in unbelievable activities such as art therapy and music.
Whether it was davening, line up or baking chocolate chip cookies, everyone had a smile on their face.
What could be more fun for a kid than playing a great game of sports with people that care about them?
Or getting a strike in bowling, and having all your friends break out in a cheer?
The children got to hear the shofar blown by Rabbi Meir Geisinsky, as well as dance their way all the way to Happy Feet Studio and David’s Pizza.
9 year old Max said, “Riding the Mr. Potato Head (in Boomer’s amusement park) was one of the greatest days of my life.”
There was no time to rest; it was just non-stop action. Who can forget those exclusive friendship circle silly bandz that everyone received – with the promise to share one and spread the Friendship Circle message to another friend.
Let’s keep the message going. If you or someone you know would like to partake in this program or if you’re in 9th grade and up and would like to volunteer, please call Batsheva at (516) 295-2478 *13.
