What is green, shines brightly and has wheels? A MenorahCycle.
Chabad centers around the world will be using this month a bicycle as an environmentally-friendly method to spread the light and uplifting message of Chanukah.
The MenorahCycle, built on a commercial pedi-bikes, sports a high-end menorah made from translucent tubing and LED lighting with 16 changing flashing colors, all controlled by remote control while are riding.
The 4-sided square behind the cyclist is wrapped with a customized lit-up banner resembling a dreidel. Each side has another of the 4 letters, proclaiming that “a big miracle happened there” in the times of the Bais Hamikdash.
And it has enough space for storage to have Menorah kits, doughnuts or anything other Chanukah related items handy while doing Mivtzoim and encountering Jews. It is easily accessible through a zippered banner.
The concept is the brainchild is Levi Duchman, a Chabad bochur from Crown Heights who has successfully propelled the concert of doing mitzvos on a bike with the PediSukkah he created.
“Many shluchim have bikes from the Sukkos run and were looking to use it throughout the entire year,” he told COLlive.com about the PediSukkah that caught media attention, as an alternative to the motorhome-Mitzvah Tanks and Sukkahs on pickup trucks.
“It brought an entire cool new dimension to their activity and were looking for a way to continue the great spirits of something so fun and therefore we thought of the MenorahCycle,” he said.
Duchman said the combination of good deeds –a mitzvah and conserving the planet– wins over people from all backgrounds. “We are looking forward to roll out cool stuff for Purim and other holidays.”
