On Simchas Torah, the Rebbe would Daven, and after that he would have a big Farbrengen with Chassidim from all over the world.
At some Farbrengens the Rebbe would clap and make motions with his hands. He would get really Chayesdik, and his face would light up. The Rebbetzin wouldn’t come to these Farbrengens, but she would stay at home to wait for the Rebbe.
It was Simchas Torah in 5746/1986 and the Rebbe was joyous. Clapping his hands, encouraging people to sing, he was really into it. He usually didn`t finish his L’chaim cup, but this time he did. People from all over the world were sharing in this unforgettable Simchas Torah.
The Rebbe was getting more and more into everything. There was not one person in 770 who didn`t have the same inspiring thoughts.
At a certain point in the Farbrengen, the Rebbe announced, “Everyone pour yourselves a L’chaim, drink it and then, when you’re finished, tip your cup upside down, (just like the Menorah cups were upside down) By doing that, you’re showing that your Brochos will flow everywhere.”
********
After the Farbrengen, some of my family members and others went to the Rebbetzin to recount what had just transpired. They explained every single little detail to the Rebbetzin, including how the Rebbe asked everyone to turn over their L’chaim cups.
There was a bottle of Liquor on the table, and while they were talking to her, she very quietly and gently, without anybody really noticing, turned over the small bottle of liquor, leaning it on its side.
Even though the Farbrengen already happened, and the Rebbe encouraged everyone to turn over their Bechers during the Farbrengen, the Rebbetzin still did so when she heard about it. Because it’s never too late to do what the Rebbe wants from us.
Thank you Raizy. If you are so able to inspire us at the age of 10, I am looking forward to when you are 20 – may you go from strength to strength.
