A photo posted this week on the Facebook page of Lubavitch Archives has been shared and liked for a message it carries.
It was photographed in 1970 by Yitzchak Minkowitz in the main shul at Lubavitch World Headquarters – 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, NY.
In it, the Rebbe is seen walking with his chief aide, Rabbi Chaim Mordechai Aizik Hodakov, and pointing out a paper that was discarded on the floor.
The Rebbe motioned “that out of respect for the shul, someone should pick it up,” Lubavitch Archives wrote.
To quote Rabbi Pinchas ben Yair on the Mishnah of tractate Sotah: “Heedfulness leads to cleanliness; cleanliness leads to purity; purity leads to abstinence; abstinence leads to holiness; holiness leads to humility; humility leads to fear of sin; fear of sin leads to saintliness; saintliness leads to (the possession) of Divine Inspiration; Divine Inspiration leads to the Resurrection of the Dead; and the Resurrection of the Dead comes through Elijah of blessed memory, amen.”
There is no shortage of what the Rebbe would point at in 770 these days and say “out of respect someone should pick it up”
I think we should set up block committees to deal with the garbage all over the streets here. Many guests come to CH and its a chilul Hashem, not to mention unpleasant for us as residents. We at least need more garbage cans or more frequent pick ups in our neighborhood. Does anyone know how to initiate things like this?
you guys should post these interesting things more often. they are a good read.
let’s learn from our boss keep the place clean in every sense of the word
so, what would the Rebbe say today…with just a few more than 1 paper on the floor
Thank you so much!
It’s a story oft repeated (especially by teachers…!) and now we finally get to see it in real life!
and blessed
