Last week I went on a “work trip.” The place I work is Bnos Chomesh and the “work trip” was a three-day adventure to sunny Florida with staff and students of the school. Nothing could have felt less like work.
Bnos Chomesh, is a school built on connection. Working in Bnos Chomesh means getting to know your students, really well, both in and out of the classroom. It’s a school designed around the wellbeing and flourishing of each student. Bnos Chomesh goes above and beyond, and literally has its staff getting on a plane for a 3 day trip in order to give students learning experiences they will treasure and memories they will take with them for a lifetime.
When that’s the goal, when that’s the mission of the school, a trip to Florida makes perfect sense.
A trip to Florida is part of being a member of the Bnos Chomesh family.
During our stay in Florida we swam, ate out, had a yacht ride, golfed, barbecued and shopped. We farbrenged with Mrs. Etty Schwartz, Shlucha in Davie, Florida until the early hours of the morning.
But the highlight of the trip…the moment that expressed what the trip was all about?
For me it was on day 3, sitting at a brunch graciously and beautifully prepared by Mrs. Leah Shapiro, Shlucha in DelRay Beach.
Going around the table, each girl shared her favorite part of the trip. And for most, it wasn’t the golf or the boat or the barbecue. The girls spoke about how well everyone had gotten along with each other, how no one had been excluded at any point, how everyone had genuinely enjoyed spending time together, getting to know each other better. There hadn’t been any drama on the trip. It had been a friendly, wholesome, fun, learning-filled, enjoyable trip. Building that kind of environment takes time, takes effort, takes dedication. It takes the staff of Bnos Chomesh who are committed to the Chinuch of their students both inside and outside of school. It takes a school willing to go above and beyond to bring out the best in each student.
For a beautiful ending to the trip, our flight was delayed. Here was a situation which could have easily devolved into grumpy moods and lots of kvetching. Instead the girls sat around at the gate waiting to board, eating every kosher snack sold in the airport shops (thanks, Delta, for the food vouchers!). The girls proudly davened mincha, said Tehillim and the 12 pesukim. Proud Yidden, proud Chassidim and happy students from the best school on the planet.

BCA, THANK YOU!
I’ve heard a lot about this school. I had a cousin that went. She always spoke very highly of it. School trip to Florida??!! So fun!!
Who would not want to go to this school? Everything I hear about it is so amazing.
It’s a real shluchus to stay in Crown Heights and be there for our own community. Many times, crown heights opportunities get overlooked. Kol Hakovod!
