High Turnout Reported for First Crown Heights Election in 14 Years

Crown Heights residents turned out on Sunday to vote in the first election in 14 years for directors of the Vaad Hakohol. Voting continues until 9 PM at Lubavitch Yeshiva. Full Story

What a shame that the first election in 14 years did not prioritize the inclusion of the entire community. This failure to extend the vote to women is shamefully wrong and an embarrassment to Crown Heights.

Also older singles. Older singles make up a much bigger part of CH’s demographic than they did 14 years ago (and since the time when the bylaws were established). The fact that marriage makes you more “worthy” and gives you status as a community member is not just hurtful and adding salt to an open wound (lets be honest, we all know its not easy being an older single in any frum community) – but it also makes no sense. seeing chasidim going to the polls is exactly how the rebbe wants.

i think that its important that the vaad hakohol take things into their hands,
and get things going in the benefit of the community.
