Commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation Ydanis Rodríguez visited the Crown Heights neighborhood at the invitation of Chanina Sperlin, Executive VP for Governmental Affairs for the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council (CHJCC).
The Commissioner, accompanied by Brooklyn Borough Commissioner Keith Bray and Mayor Adams’ senior advisor Yoel Eisdorfer listened attentively as CHJCC Executive Director Rabbi Eli Cohen and other community members addressed a number of issues concerning the community.
Among the points discussed at the meeting were dangerous conditions for pedestrians relating to traffic light timing, better street lighting for Kingston Avenue, ways to slow traffic on the service lane near 770 Eastern Parkway, and possible moving of the new Citibike rack opposite 770.
Rabbi Moshe Pinson, President of Bais Shmuel Chabad Congregation, also presented a request for special permissions needed for the planned construction of their new center on Union Street.

I hope they brought up the crazy ebikes, mopeds and delivery bikes riding on sidewalks all the time, can’t wagon down street without almost being knocked over, or even crossing the street safely without them flying through red lights. And have more cameras for those running red lights.
they rob people of hard earned money
the city uses them to help fund freebies for their workers and for people who the city decides needs to get freebies for everything under the sun
Not a speed camera, a red light camera. Too many run red lights without consequences, and many have almost gotten knocked into or run over because of it. And yes they were crossing on green. If that’ll deter people from speeding and running red lights, I’d rather that…..
I hope they mentioned the city’s latest crazy idea of putting that Citi bike rack on EP service lane in front of Bank of America. That is THE craziest thing I’ve ever seen. It MUST be moved to another corner where it won’t cause such chaos. It knocks out 6 (!!!!!!) preciouse parking spaces, and it causes so much traffic especially for the Oholei Torah buses trying to get through. (They left enough space for one car to park in front of it, so naturally anyone running in or out of the bank for a “second” is going to park… Read more »
do
something
about
it
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes they did request for it to be moved
Did they discuss the scooters and motor bikes that zip along the sidewalk, endangering elderly pedestrians? Some of those motor bikes are full size motorcycles, yet they fly along the sidewalks, violating traffic rules with impunity!
Why EXACTLY didn’t they discuss also the safety of crime ??? 🤔
Because they were meeting with the department of transportation
up to a few years ago all main streets in CH had stronger lighting, Kingston, Brooklyn, Troy, Albany, Schenectady, etc. this was privately funded, (not very expensive) the ball was drooped and all lights were changed to dimmer strength. what is not spoken about is that the 30% change in the lighting strength has caused a large uptick in the crime in our area. we dont need huge big meeting to correct the lighting on Kingston ave which is already lit up by most of the stores which added lights after the dimming of street lights a few years ago.… Read more »
I hope they install speed bumps all over CH as itll slow down those cars who zoom on residential blocks, a tragedy waiting to happen. Especially those cars without plates.
The CITIbike rack across B of A can easily be moved to the vestibule walkway of Eastern parkway. It appears that they intentionally want less parking spots. Do they think/car of elderly people who use the bank and have to try to the bank or for shopping. There are other CITIBIKE racks in our area also. They all could be put on a wide sidewalk.
There are four or five street lights out on Eastern Parkway between Brooklyn and New York’s service lane. We tried calling 311. After at least a half hour waiting time the clerk explained that there was a complicated procedure to follow in order to report it. In addition it seems they won’t take your complaint unless others have called as well.
We could not stay on the phone for another three hours…
It’s over a month later and the lights are still all out. It is very dark at night!!
