For 20 years and now entering the 21st year, Kol Yakov Yehuda – the Rebbes Diamond Daveners – has set the tone and benchmark for Chabad youth programming.
It is a shul filled with 5 divisions and nearly 250 children attending weekly shabbos programming. While chayus, vibrancy, and the pursuit of empowering Unzere Kinder have always been at the core of what we do, pursuing a livelihood has always been a little more complicated, all of our congregants for the most part are thankfully unemployed and we do not sell any kibbudim in our shul aside for 1.
And like most things we do, we look to empower and inspire as many people as we can in our peulos. The one kibbud that we sell, as has been our tradition for 20 years is the open-to-all maftir yonah. This year it is even more meaningful as the Mishna in Prikei Avos tells us that at 20, it is time to pursue a livelihood.
A contribution to our group Maftir Yonah comes along with all the zechusim as you partner with us in empowering the next generation of shluchim, community leaders and those who support all of these people in their incredible work.
“We here in Los Angeles are so proud of these Diamond Daveners, since our inception 20 years ago we have grown to five divisions and close to 250 kids attend every Shabbos,” said Rabbi Mendel Duchman, Founder and (adult) Director of The shul for the kids by the kids – as it has commonly become known worldwide. “Over 1000 of unzereh kinder have gone through our shul and youth programs thus far, and has Boruch Hashem kept us pretty busy trying to attend their Bar Mitzvahs, wedding, and recently the Brissim of the children born to our Congregants,” he said.
