Tomchei Temimim of Ocean Parkway recently launched a program called Besura Tova in preparation for Yud Aleph Nissan.
The idea was developed by Rabbi Menachem Lifshitz, assistant principal at ULYOP. “I was listening to a Farbrengen of Reb Mendel Futerfas, when the idea first struck me,” said Rabbi Lifshitz.
In the Farbrengen, Reb Mendel related a story of a melamed who came up with an idea to create a positive environment amongst his talmidim. “He asked each one of them to think of their friend’s good characteristics and write them down. This caused each talmid to focus on the positive in their friend, leaving them no time to realize any negativity. Before long, the students were at their best, finished Reb Mendel.”
A station has been set up in the hallway, where a student can write a card about something positive he witnessed his friend do. The cards are then hung along the hallway of the yeshiva for everyone to see. The success of the program has grown to include many staff members as well.
It has been a great hit, and many besura tova cards are already decorating the halls of the yeshiva! These cards will I”yh be brought to the Ohel to give the Rebbe nachas.
