Israel has announced a ban on travel to the United States hours after multiple passengers on a flight from Miami were found to have been carrying the heavily mutated Omicron variant of the coronavirus, Haaretz reported.
The ban, which will go into effect Tuesday, will prohibit Israelis from flying to the U.S. unless they obtain permission from a special committee.
According to Haaretz, the ban was announced just hours after 10 percent of passengers on a flight from Miami tested positive for COVID-19, with most of them suspected of carrying the Omicron variant.
Israel has recorded 134 confirmed Omicron cases and an additional 307 suspected cases so far, but Prime Minister Naftali Bennett warned during a televised address Sunday night that case numbers are set to soar over the coming weeks.
Travel to and from so-called “red countries” is expressly forbidden, unless permission is granted by a special committee. Those who return from the blacklisted countries must enter a seven-day quarantine.

According to the hatzola letter two doses is 50% against a 20X increase in infection rate over the original strain. So a two dose vaccination brings it to 10X?

A booster helps substantially more. So let’s now only what 5X? How many shots in the arm are we going take yearly forever for what looks like an endemic and G-d willing relatively harmless recurrence.
sounds a little iffy. I already heard from a n Israel government insider last week that the Israeli government were planning on doing this. Sounds to me like Haaretz just wants to blame the Florida anti mandates government, so that people should want to join the pro mandates outlook.

The Hatzola letter published Friday says some important things (for the sake of the discussion we will simply assume it’s all true as stated) This strain is 20X more infectious than the original If someone has two doses it’s ‘only’ 10X more infectious (they say the doses are 50% effective) If someone has also a booster, it helps ‘substantially’ — so let’s say that brings it down to 5X more infectious. How quickly is it possible to identify a particular strain (Delta, Omicron, etc)? One article I read stated it can be done overnight at some labs.
This decision was made HOURS after the people tested positive?
I don’t believe a particular strain can be identified in mere hours.
