Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Vice Chairman of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch, sent an update on behalf of the organizing committee of the 5781 – 2020 International Kinus Hashluchim convention in New York.
He said that no decision has been made about holding the largest gatherings of Chabad rabbis that draws to Crown Heights thousands of Shluchim, their sons and supporters.
“The Kinus Vaad is working closely with professionals and Rabbonim to determine in what capacity the Kinus will take place,” Rabbi Kotlarsky wrote in an email on Sunday.
He said that plans are being made for the possibilities of a completely virtual Kinus, a part virtual and part in-person Kinus, or a completely in-person Kinus.
“The Vaad has made a strong commitment that no matter what it takes, there will be a full Kinus program,” he said.
A similar decision was taken this summer as the Covid-19 pandemic continued to infect people around the USA. The Regional Kinus conferences were held this year online via Zoom.
“The world is still reeling with uncertainty and there remains many unknowns of what the program will look like,” Rabbi Kotlarsky stated.
He said that some of programming possibilities they are looking into is to have either full or partial in-person events that will be simultaneously streamed for those who may not be able to attend, local in-person Kinusim in different parts of the world that will be connected through livestream.
Typically, the gala banquet of the Kinus is broadcast live, while the Melave Malka on Motzoei Shabbos and some other internal sessions are broadcast privately for Shluchim who can’t make it.
Rabbi Kotlarsky said that what exactly the program will be, understandably cannot be decided at this time.
“Any in person program that is planned will be conducted under strict guidance and approval of Rabbonim and Medical Professionals, the local government, the New York State Health Department, Dr. Eli Rosen and the Crown Heights Gedaliah Society,” he said.
It should be in the Bais Hamikdosh hashlishi.
